North Korea Bans Skinny Jeans
North Korean leader Kim Jong-un announced a list of banned fashion and hairstyles in the region’s state-run newspaper and skinny jeans are on the list since it’s a symbol of a “capitalistic lifestyle”. I wonder what’s going to happen when he realizes that skinny jeans are ‘so out’ and if mum jeans are in danger of getting banned as well. Anyway, all the details on this troubling ban are in bullet points.
- North Korea’s Kim-Jong-un outlawed skinny, mullets, slogan T-shirts, nose and lip piercings under the premise that these are symbols of capitalism.
- The new Fashion rules are part of the regime’s crackdown on “anti-socialist behaviour”.
- Reports suggest that Kim Jong-un’s communist regime has reportedly outlawed all but 15 “non-socialist” haircuts.
- Accompanying the list of banned Fashion styles there was a quote: “History teaches us a crucial lesson that a country can become vulnerable and eventually collapse like a damp wall regardless of its economic and defence power if we do not hold on to our own lifestyle.” - Guardian
Fashion rules are probably being enforced as I write this and have a real danger of further hindering human rights in North Korea.
